A change of major can be completed online from Topnet. To locate this form on Topnet, go to Student Services, Student Records and the Change form will be the second option on that screen.
Although you can declare or change your major at any point in your college career, the earlier you do it, the easier it will be to meet the requirements for graduation. The general psychology major requires a minor. However, you do not have to select a minor at the time you initially declare your psychology major. The extended psychology major does not require a minor.
SELECTING A PSYCHOLOGY ADVISOR
The Department of Psychology prefers to use the "favorite professor" method of assigning advisors whenever possible. This means that you may request your favorite psychology teacher to be your advisor, and in most cases this works out very well. Not all faculty, however, are available to be academic advisors, for a variety of reasons, and some students become psychology majors without knowing a faculty member. In this case, the undergraduate advising coordinator, the Department Head (Tate Page Hall 275; psych@wku.edu) will assign you a faculty advisor who will assist you with your academic program. Should you wish to change faculty advisors, it is as simple as asking the person you wish to switch to whether he/she is available to add you as an advisee, and if so, filing the CHANGE OF MAJOR/MINOR/ADVISOR form to complete the change.
