My students just don’t remember, retain, comprehend the information I give them! 

 

This is a common theme for teachers, luckily there are strategies designed to head off this plaguing dilemma.  These particular strategies are to help you, help your students.

 

 These ideas are derived from, Learning Your Way, regarding retention.  Here is a synopsis of the main ideas:

·      Repetition (an oldie but a goodie)

·      Use a key word method for taking notes (http://www.westshore.edu/webs/ltc/cornell_note_taking_method.htm)

·      Vocabulary cards more commonly known as flashcards (www.flashcardexchange.com)

·      Use mnemonics

·      Take frequent breaks when studying

·      Review notes daily

·      Use the SQ3R strategy
