Tundra Tribe
Before you begin your research, use the following link to find a KWHL chart. Print this chart and as a group fill in each column with what you know about the tundra, what you want to know about the tundra, how you plan to find this information out, and then later you will fill in what you learned about the tundra.
Once you have completed the KWHL chart, you are ready to begin your research. Remember as you start your research that you are looking for information that will be important to CBS and Mrs. Brandy's tribe when choosing the biome to use in the first Survivor Kids. Look for information that will be helpful such as climate, food, shelter, animals, dangerous characteristics, or other important aspects of the biome. As you complete your research, use a T-chart to record the advantages of having the game show in this biome as well as the disadvantages. Use the websites below for your research. Answers to Questions About the Tundra
Now that you have done your research, you are ready to go back and review your KWHL chart that was completed earlier. Look back and see if you were able to answer "what I want to know?" Fill in the "what I learned?" portion of the table using the information you gathered.
For those of you have watched Survivor, you know that it is customary for the tribes to create a tribal flag. Now that you know a lot about the tundra, it is your task to use construction paper to make a Tundra Tribe flag that reflects the characteristics of the tundra. You may be as creative as you want to be, but the flag should show the major characteristics of what the tundra has to offer. When finished, the other tribes should be able to see the main characteristic of the tundra. Turn the completed flag into Mrs. Carol.
You've done a great job and you're almost there. It's now time to create a tribe name that is representative of the research you have done on the tundra. Create a PowerPoint presentation to "sell" your biome to CBS and Ms. Brandy's tribe. You need to give your audience the details of the tundra. Let us know about the climate, food, shelter, animals, neat characteristics, and even some dangers that may be found. You want to make the presentation so that CBS and Ms. Brandy's tribe are aware of the advantages AND the disadvantages of the tundra, all while trying to persuade them to pick the tundra.
In addition, you need to pick a REAL tundra as a suggestion. This means look back at the websites and find a geographical location that is a tundra and use that place in your presentation as a possible site for the game show. After every tribe gives their presentation, Ms. Brandy's tribe will vote off 3 tribes and will give the immunity idol to the winning tribe. Good luck!

As a class, we will compose a business letter to CBS stating the outcome of our research and giving a suggestion about where our class thinks the first Survivor Kids should be held. We will use the winning tribe's PowerPoint presentation as our pre-writing. Before we begin, you should refresh your memory on the layout of a business letter.
