Section VI:  Summary Statements

Summary statements are merely declarative sentences written by the instructor that summarize observations and beliefs about the learner based on formal (miscue analysis) and informal (conversations, observations) data gathered during the case study.  Examples are as follows:

     * J. understands that comprehension is the most important part of reading.

     * J. usually accesses his prior knowledge to help construct meaning.

     * J. occasionally fails to attend to end punctuation.  

There is no "set" number of these required.  There should simply be enough to fully describe what you have observed through interactions with the learner and discovered through assessments.
