Kentucky Adult Educators Literacy Institute
"A WebQuest Adventure in Literacy"

Western Kentucky University

Welcome to your journey through the world of literacy! As an educator who works with adult literacy we need your help.  During the 3-day seminar in July you will be introduced to "best practice" as it relates to the reading and writing process.  You will be introduced to many strategies that assist people in constructing meaning from print.  The purpose of this WebQuest is to underscore your understanding of these strategies, assist you in providing instruction that includes these strategies, and to help other Adult Literacy Educators by building a databank of resources, thoughts, and instructional plans.

To prepare you for the content of this course we have selected some readings for you.  These articles will help set the context for the seminar in July and for the WebQuest you will work on throughout the next year.

Pre-Seminar Readings

Some Thoughts Regarding Navigation Through the WebQuest

Throughout the WebQuest you will be supported by your instructor from the university where you registered for this Institute.  You can reach your instructor by "clicking" on the name of the university located at the top of each page.  There you will find contact information for each instructor.

Each time you encounter "blue" text in this WebQuest you will know that the word(s) is/are hyperlinked.  Also, by clicking on the words in the table below you will be automatically transported to that page.  If at any time you proceed forward to a page and want to return to previous pages, click the "back" button on your browser.

To begin this journey, click on "Tasks" in the table below.  Good luck and remember:  You are NEVER alone in this venture!  We are waiting patiently behind the button you see on each page.

Peer Visits Research

Whenever you need a FUN break, click on the bird () located near the navigation table or elsewhere on each page.  Each bird takes you to a unique location.
