To: Graduate Students Enrolled in CNS 652

From: Vernon Lee Sheeley, Instructor

Course Requirements:

Identify a topic in the field of guidance and counseling in which you are very interested. Plan your paper by referring to the attached titled "Historical Research Methods" or a counseling journal. Devote a minimum of 15 hours of independent study for the one-hour course or 45 hours for the three-hour course.

Guidelines:

1. Use APA style, preferably the 4th edition (1994) of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.

2. Double space all material.

3. On a separate sheet of paper, prepare a detailed abstract (100-200 words) that explains how you chose your topic and what you included in your paper.

4. Write a brief abstract (25-50 words) and place it beneath the title of your paper. Explain what you wrote in your paper and what were the results.

5. The maximum length of your paper should be 14-16 pages, not counting the reference pages or the more lengthy abstract you wrote on a separate sheet of paper.

Grading Scale:

A = Excellent Quality - Include 15-16 references, if possible.

B = Good Quality - Include 8-14 references, if possible. (If you receive a grade of "B" or "C", you may redo your paper and try for a higher grade, if done during the semester of enrollment.

If you have any questions about CNS 652 that you believe I am able to answer, please feel free to contact me. Mail (do not fax or e-mail) your paper to me in adequate time before semester grades are to be filed. Make up an incomplete grade within 12 weeks of the next fall or spring semester following the semester of enrollment.

The sample paper attached, using the 4th edition of the APA manual, was requested from me with a limit of 1,400 words and up to five references. Use the sample as a guide, if you wish, but remember to double space all! Have fun!
