Cadets of the Month
Archives

February 2008: Soldier’s have long used faith to bolster their morale on the field of battle. From Normandy to Baghdad, a soldier’s belief in a higher power has pushed warriors beyond their physical and mental limitations. For Cadet Logan Hatfield, his faith in Christ has guided him through both the rigors of Air Assault School, as well as the moral dilemmas that face many on campus. An inspirational leader, Cadet Hatfield’s outstanding character is evident through all areas of his life, from holding bible studies for his fraternity, to consistently excelling in ROTC activities, his actions both in and outside of the battalion make him the epitome of what we look for in Cadet of the Month. Cadet Jenna Ratterman
January 2008: For many cadets, running seems to be the most difficult of all PT events. The endurance required and stamina make not only training, but execution more strenuous than other physical exercises. In this case, Cadet Ratterman is the exception, not the rule. A Sophomore hailing from Atherton High School, Ratterman is majoring in Sociology and Spanish and is considering Military Police for her branch of choice. A brilliant writer and former high school cross-country runner, Ratterman sets the fitness bar not only for females, but for many in the Battalion. A well-rounded Cadet, Ratterman is well suited for cadet of the week. (Read more about CDT Ratterman)

Lt. Nick Lietz

December, 2007: With the commissioning of four ROTC cadets this past week, the United States Army gained a group of highly motivated and capable 2nd Lieutenants. Among these was Cadet Nick Lietz, an MSV from Illinois. Lt. Lietz, who is now an active duty Medical Services officer had originally intended on being an Army nurse, however after realizing that it may not had been the field for him, he switched career paths to work in hospital administration. For the battalion he always had a way of lightening the mood with either a joke, or a cigar lit after a PT test. As with all the commissioning officers, he will be sorely missed and we wish him, and the rest of our new Lieutenants the best.
Cadet Amanda McNary
November, 2007:
Cadet Amanda McNary is a freshman from Ft. Stewart Georgia. Her ability to go above and what is asked made her an easy choice for this recognition. Earning the highest PT score for females at 281, McNary is highly involved with sports as well as the Battalion. Majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy, McNary is scheduled to graduate in 2011 and will commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. On December 7th 2007, Cadet McNary was sworn into the United States Army. An excellent student and superior cadet, Amanda McNary is not only a welcome addition to the family, but is role model for others in the battalion! (Read more about Cadet McNary)

Cadet Jared Crocker
October, 2007:
Cadet Jared Crocker goes above and beyond his duties as an MS3. He made a tough adjustment moving straight from being an MS1 to his junior semester in order to cohere with the Army nursing program. Combating a tough transition, Crocker has risen to be one of the top cadets in his class.

This cadet has also taken strides to reactivate the WKU chapter of Scabbard and Blade with no orders to do so. Such early strides include his development of Electronic Entertainment for Soldiers, devised to deliver DVD’s, videogames and other items to soldiers overseas. Not only does he realize the importance of the program and how they could help the entire WKU team, but he is helping his fellow cadets realize the same benefits. Since 2001 no cadet has been successful in implementing the Scabbard and Blade program, but Crocker is on a path to success! (Read more about Cadet Crocker)

That which we wish to accomplish may only be acquired through blood, sweat and tears. But the pain we endure during the process of attaining our goals, pales in comparison to lost opportunity.
