NAME: Aaron Arflack

MAJOR: History

HOMETOWN: Owensboro

HIGH SCHOOL: Springfield High School

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: It was closest to home, plus I loved the beautiful campus and the warm friendly environment. Also I’ve noticed that I can learn a lot from ROTC and the high speed MSIVs.

ABOUT ME: I Spent 5 years on active duty, and I can’t wait to return. I love western and Big Red is my hero.

FUTURE GOALS: Graduate on time with good grades and be the best officer I can be HOOAH!

NAME: Jared Crocker

MAJOR: Nursing

HOMETOWN: Shepherdsville KY

HIGH SCHOOL: North Bullitt High School

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE:I came to Western because if offered me the most opportunity. This was the only school that I knew I would be able to get a nursing degree in four years with ROTC on top of my degree program. I also enjoy the layout of the campus and how everything is in close proximity of what you need.

ABOUT ME: I'm currently a sophomore, majoring in nursing and military science. I enjoy outdoor activities; I spend most of my summer swimming in the pool. I have all sorts of interest, but primarily medical and military stuff.

FUTURE GOALS: My future plans are commission as an Army Nurse Officer in 2010 and get my master's degree to be a nurse anesthetist. I am also going to consider a Doctorate of nursing practice upon retiring. I want to start a family sometime soon, but I'll let that work itself out!

NAME: Zack Fulkerson

MAJOR: Exercise Science

HIGH SCHOOL: Apollo

HOMETOWN: Owensboro, KY

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: I came to Western to finish my degree that I started at Murray State. Also, I came to pursue the ROTC program.

ABOUT ME:I am in the National Guard, but wanted to go the officer route instead of enlisted and what a great way to do that through the ROTC. I recently got married to Shelly Howard.

FUTURE GOALS: My plans for the future are to provide for her and I through the Army. I plan to go active after I graduate.

NAME: A. Paige Greene

MAJOR: Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Behavioral Social
Sciences

HOMETOWN: Louisville, KY

HIGH SCHOOL: Liberty High School. Louisville, KY

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: I originally came to Western for the photojournalism program.

ABOUT ME: I am a soldier in the National Guard for the 203rd Det 1, in Glasgow, KY. I am a photographer, musician, and a poet among other things.

FUTURE GOALS: Commissioning and becoming the best person and soldier I can be while I serve and retire out of the US Army.

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: The reason I came to Western Kentucky University is to help better myself academically. By continuing my education I can also better myself in future jobs, mentoring, or maybe even own a business.

ABOUT ME: Well my name is Brian Hodges and I am currently 23 years old. I have been going to WKU since 2002, but with Basic, AIT, mobilization, and one deployment to Iraq under my belt it has sort of hindered me in my ultimate goal of graduation.

FUTURE GOALS:
Well one of these days when I grow up and leave the life at WKU I hope to join the ranks of an aviator on active duty. If that falls through then I would like to do law enforcement on the civilian side, and ultimately start a family and live life to the fullest.

NAME: Matt Kasenow

MAJOR: History

HOMETOWN: Newburgh, IN

HIGH SCHOOL: Memorial H.S.

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: I came to WKU because I liked the campus more than any other campus I visited. I also liked the WKU ROTC cadre more than those at any other programs. I am still very happy with the decision I made

ABOUT ME: I am a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and like to hang out with my fraternity brothers along with my fellow ROTC cadets. I play many intramural sports and like to play sand volleyball at the Fraternity house.

FUTURE GOALS: I would like to be able to serve a full career as an Army officer. I’m
excited about any branch that I might receive and looking forward to graduating in May of 2009.

NAME: Cody LaChappelle

HOMETOWN: Prescott Valley, AZ

HIGHSCHOOL: Prescott Valley High

MAJOR: Nursing Major

ABOUT ME: I thank God for all the things that He has richly blessed me with and I hope that I never lose sight of what is truly the most important.

FUTURE GOALS: I have many plans for the future. I want to serve my country and help save lives in the Nursing Core. I would like to get my Physician Assistant degree and after a while I would love to teach and to coach High School basketball. I hope to devote my life to serving and helping others in any way that I can. I came to Western with a few of my friends. We all transferred up here together from Florida College.

NAME: Brianna Motley

MAJOR: Nursing

HOMETOWN: Clarksville, TN

HIGH SCHOOL: Rossview High School

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: I came to WKU because I was in love with the campus. I also already knew someone who was coming. And I also received both an academic scholarship and an ROTC scholarship.

ABOUT ME: I love to laugh and have fun. You can usually find me either surrounded by my friends laughing and hanging out, shopping, or spending time with my family.

FUTURE GOALS: I plan on becoming an Army Nurse. Once I am out of the military, I would like to be an OB/GYN nurse, and become a mother!

NAME: Michael Rasmusson

MAJOR: Exercise Science Major

HOMETOWN: Fort Knox Kentucky

HIGH SCHOOL: Fort Knox High School

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: Although my family is deeply involved in the service, I Joined ROTC to pay for school, the money from ROTC covered not only my books and tuition, but some living expenditures as well. Also WKU was close to home, which makes it easy on both my family and I.

ABOUT ME:  I’m a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, and I work as a server at Applebee’s.

FUTURE GOALS: Commission as an officer in the Medical Service Corp.

NAME: Meghan Rinehart

MAJOR: Nursing

HOMETOWN: El Paso, TX

HIGH SCHOOL: Robert G. Cole

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: I was offered a four year nursing scholarship and Western has a really good nursing program.

ABOUT ME: Both of my parents are in the military, my mom being an officer and my dad being enlisted. The military has offered us a good life and I wanted to follow in their footsteps. In high school, I cheered, ran track and cross country and was also involved in JROTC for three years.

FUTURE GOALS: Graduate from nursing school and travel all over the world.

NAME: Suzanne Rice

MAJOR: Nursing

HOMETOWN: Bowling Green, KY

HIGH SCHOOL: Allen County-Scottsville HS

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: I came to WKU after graduating high school because I was offered a full academic scholarship. I wanted to remain close to my family, so WKU was the perfect choice. After obtaining my first degree and deciding I wanted to pursue a nursing degree, I chose to remain at WKU because I knew the nursing department was phenomenal, I was familiar with the campus and area, and I wanted to join WKU ROTC.

ABOUT ME: I am currently in nursing school, and I can't wait to be an Army nurse so that I can fulfill my dual goals of serving those who need my help as a nurse and serving the country.

FUTURE GOALS: After leaving the Army, my dream is to work as a pediatric oncology nurse for children who have cancer in a place like St. Jude's.
NAME: Nathaniel Sanders (Nate)

MAJOR: Broadcasting & Political Science

HOMETOWN: Louisville, KY

HIGH SCHOOL: Butler High School

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: Western was my last choice when deciding on colleges to attend.  However, after the first semester Western was a perfect fit for me.  I have enjoyed my time so far at Western and am looking forward to two more exciting and educational years.

ABOUT ME: I am a 22 year old male born and raised in Louisville, KY.  I play rugby here at Western and enjoy traveling in my spare time.  I thoroughly enjoy exploring the unknown and being spontaneous.  Those who know me well see me as an energetic and passionate individual.  I have a true passion for people and learning more about the individuals that I surround myself with.

FUTURE GOALS: After I graduate from Western I plan to commission and go active. I have not decided exactly what branch I would like to join but I believe the Army will guide me in the right direction. After my time in the Army I plan to move west and explore new parts of the country.  Life holds all kinds of opportunities for me and I look forward to every new day.

NAME: Joshua Witten

MAJOR: Economics

HOMETOWN: Vine Grove, KY

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: I came to Western because both sides of my family graduated here.

ABOUT ME: I am 20 years old, medium height and available.

FUTURE GOALS: They include flying helicopters overseas, settling down, and retiring on my farm.

NAME: Eric Yates

MAJOR: Social Studies/Secondary Education

HOMETOWN: Rineyville, KY

HIGH SCHOOL: John Hardin High School

WHY I CHOSE WKU FOR COLLEGE: I came to WKU because I wanted to stay in Kentucky, their education program is excellent and the ROTC program is one of the best in the state.

ABOUT ME: I grew up on a tobacco farm in Hardin County; enjoy good movies, books, music.

FUTURE GOALS: I'll probably get out of the army and start teaching and eventually move up to some role in administration.
