Faculty Positions

The Department of Psychology at Western Kentucky University invites applications for three entry-level, tenure-track positions to begin August 15, 2009. All positions involve undergraduate and graduate teaching. Preferred qualifications include teaching experience, and evidence of the potential to develop a productive research program that will engage students. WKU is committed to promotion of stewardship and student engagement. Positions 1 and 2 are in Clinical Psychology and require an earned doctorate in clinical psychology from an APA-approved program, broad training, and eligibility for Kentucky license (preference will be given to those who are or can be licensed immediately). The desired area of specialization for Position 1 is child clinical; for Position 2, the area of specialization is open. Duties for both positions include supervision of practica, internships, and master’s theses. These positions could involve teaching any of the following undergraduate courses: Abnormal Psychology, Personality, Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Psychology of Sexuality, Psychological Tests and Measurement, Beginning Skills in Psychological Interviewing, Behavior Modification, and other courses consistent with the candidate’s training and interests. Graduate teaching could include Intellectual Assessment, Psychotherapy, Psychopathology, and Physiological Psychology. Position 3, which is in Social Psychology, requires an earned doctorate and the area of specialization is open. This position would involve teaching undergraduate Social Psychology and Advanced Social Psychology at the graduate level as well as other undergraduate and graduate courses consistent with the applicant’s training and interests. Psychology is among the largest undergraduate majors at Western, with approximately 550 students, and the largest full-time graduate program. Undergraduate students can select either the traditional 36-hour major with a minor area of study or the extended 51-hour major which does not require a minor. The Department also offers an undergraduate minor in psychology. Graduate students can select from M.A. options in clinical psychology, experimental psychology, Industrial and organizational psychology, and an Ed.S. program in school psychology. Fully staffed, the Department has 34 full-time and 20 regular part-time and adjunct faculty. Historically, Psychology has been among the most research productive departments at WKU.
