CHAPPELL, COL Carl Leon, Jr. ('79) emailed on 26Sep06:  "Carl (Leon) and Monica Chappell are back at Fort Lewis, WA barely six months after moving cross country to New York City in August 2005.  They had a great time in NYC at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, but shortly after Christmas the call came to come back to the Pacific Northwest to command the 201st Military Intelligence Brigade, I Corps back at Fort Lewis.  So six months later (as well as $70,000 in PCS costs to tax payers and 10,000 additional miles on Carl's new truck), the Chappell's are back two blocks away from where they started.  Don't you just love the Army personnel system!  Luckily all the kids are grown and at college and we came back to a place we love.  Brigade command is a blast, especially given all the history they have with the unit and Fort Lewis."  His email is carl.chappell@mac.com

COL (Ret) William Kennedy (Cadre ’78) emailed in Feb04.  “I have been working for MPRI since spring 1999 on a program in Kuwait.  We organize and conduct/evaluate NTC like force on force and live fire training exercises for units deployed to Kuwait.  From 1999 through the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom we trained 19 battalions including all but two of the line battalions of the 3rd ID.  Since the war we have been running convoy live fire exercises for combat service support units in Kuwait and Iraq.  I work the program from the US and go to Kuwait during surge periods.  Last year we had a 9 month surge as units prepared for the attack into Iraq.  This is very rewarding work and commanders assure us we are saving lives. This fall I starting working a series of efforts at Fts Hood, Lewis & Bliss to assist units preparing to deploy to Iraq.  March and April are surge periods due to the switch out of units in Iraq which will cause me to miss your "retirement" ceremony on 28Feb04.  I retired once...didn't take.
